The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on 2 June 1953. Weston Colville marked this with a short service in the Reading Room at 1.45pm, followed by a fancy dress competition for children.  Then everyone proceeded to Mr Longs huge barn and 250 sat down to meat, salad, trifle, fancy cakes and ice cream, with tea or beer.  The children were presented with Coronation mugs, sweets, bananas and oranges and there were games, dancing and much amusement from the adults fancy dress.
